Abstract
Acne is a chronic inflammation of the pilosebasea follicles characterized by the presence of excess oil production caused by the bacteria Propionibacterium acne. Flavonoid content in star fruit wuluh can be used as an anti-acne treatment. Pharmaceutical preparations that can be used to overcome acne skin problems are serum. The purpose of this study was to formulate star fruit extract wuluh into serum preparations, knowing physical stability during storage for 28 days then knowing the antibacterial activity of Propionibacterium acne. The research method used is experimental. Star fruit wuluh extracted using maceration method with ethanol 96%. Serum preparations are made with different concentrations of gelling agents namely FI (Carbopol 0.5%), FII (Carbopol 1%), FIII (Carbopol 2%) with the active substance of star fruit extract wuluh 12.5%. Physical stability tests of serum preparations include organoleption, homogeneity, pH, adhesion, spreadability, and viscosity for 28 days of storage, then tested the antibacterial activity of Propionibacterium acne in-vitro with positive control (star fruit extract wuluh), negative control (base without extract) and all formulas on days 0 and 28 using disc diffusion method. Statistical analysis was conducted by shapiro-wilk, levene statistic, and One Way Anova methods. The results showed a semi-solid formula, with a distinctive aroma of star fruit wuluh and light brown, homogeneous during storage, has a pH, adhesion, spreadability, viscosity that meets the requirements of a good serum gel, viscosity increases in each formula due to differences in the concentration of carbopol used, the higher the concentration of carbopol, the higher the viscosity of the preparation. Antibacterial activity test results showed negative control did not have a bland zone, positive control showed a bland zone of 17.7 mm, on the 0th day FI-FIII showed a temperate bonding zone of 8.8-9.5 mm while on the 28th day had no bland zone. The results of statistical analysis of carbopol concentration variations showed significant differences in the stability of each formula in the stability test based on one way Anova (p<0.05) statistical analysis. Keywords : Serum, Carbopol, Star fruit Wuluh, Propionibacterium acne.
