Abstract
Formaldehyde is a chemical additive that is harmful to human health. Formaldehyde as a food preservative forbidden because it is not allowed in food or drink, because in the long term can lead to the development of cancer cells. Fish is a perishable food item, so that traders add formaldehyde to preservatives in order to survive a few days. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimum condition of visible spectrophotometry method and to know the concentration of formaldehyde contained in salted fish sold at Tulungagung. The presence of formaldehyde in salted fish identified qualitatively using dragon fruit peel and KMnO4, and quantitatively using visible spektrofotometi method. Random sampling taken from Tulungagung 3 regional market.. Based on samples obtained salted fish, sample was optimized. Optimization results obtained optimum wavelength is 530 nm, and optimum solvent type is aquadest. Furthermore, the result of validation of analytical method obtained in linearity test showed regression equation from formaldehyde y = 0.1242 + 0,0088x with coefficient of correlation value (R2) 0.9865, %recovery is 117.9%, Relative Standard Deviasion (RSD) is 2.218%. In a qualitative analysis, 6 samples was positive containing formaldehyde and for quantitative analysis using visible spectrophotometric, samples containing formaldehyde with levels of 90.54 ± 1.583 ppm.
