Abstract

This study aims to investigate the antibacterial activity of fraction from Zibethinus folium soxhlet extract, the most effective fraction as antibacterial, and gel activity of the most effective fraction and stability during storage. The used methods are soxhletation and fractionation. The most effective fraction as antibacterial was prepared gel formulation. The antibacterial activity test of fraction and gel were performed using the disc diffusion method. Data were statistically tested using ANOVA and Two-Sample T-Test. The results showed the fraction of soxhlet extract had inhibitory power to Escherichia coli. The diameter of inhibitory zone of aqua destillata fraction is 15±0.87 mm, ethyl acetate fraction is 21.7±0.85 mm, and n-hexane fraction is 19.3±0.76 mm. The results of evaluation of gel were semi solid, green, odour, homogeneous, pH of 5, adhesive power of 1.13±0.11 seconds, spread of 4,1±0,40 cm and protection gives red stain. Gel 1% ethyl acetate fraction 30% provides an inhibit zone 13.17±2.57 mm. Fraction Zibethinus folium had antibacterial activity characterized by inhibition zone. The most effective fraction from soxhlet extract Zibethinus folium as the antibacterial Escherichia coli was the ethyl acetate fraction. Gel 1 % of ethyl acetate fraction stable in storage and had antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli.
