Abstract

Myana (Coleus atropurureus L. Benth) is an ornamental plant that can be used as a traditional medicine originating from Southeast Asia. Myana leaf are usually used by people to treat infctions due to bacteria, Pseudomonas aeruginosa which can cause infection in the skin. The aim of this research is to know the antibacterial activity of methanol extract of myana leaf (Coleus atropurpureus L. Benth) and to know the minimum inhibitory concentration (KHM) of myana leaf methanol extract (Coleus atropurpureus L. Benth) against Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria growth. The research method used is experimental. The leaf sample was extracted using maceration method using methanol solvent. The antibacterial activity test was performed by disc diffusion method with 5 treatment groups with concentration of 5%, 25%, and 50%. Positive controls (amoxicillin) and negative control (DMSO 5%). The result of phytochemical screening is known that myana leaves contain flavonoid compounds, tannins, saponins, and steroids. The result of the antibacterial activity test of methanol extract of 5%, 25%, and 50% of the myana leaves was 0 mm, the amoxicillin positive control was 19.5 mm and the negative control of DMSO 5% was 0 mm so the myan leaf methanol extract did not have antibacterial activity against bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Therefore KHM value of methanol extract of myana leaf can not be determined. Keywords: Antibacterial, Coleus atropurpureus L. Benth, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, methanol, disc diffusion method
