Abstract
Myana leaf is an ornamental plant that can be used as a traditional medicine originating from Southeast Asia. The shapes and colors of myana vary, but the nutritious remedy is brownish red leaf. This plant belongs to the Lamiceae family, which is a wild plant in the garden. The purpose of this research is to investigate the antibacterial activity of myana leaf extract against Streptococcus mutans bacteria and to measure the minimum inhibition level of myana leaf extract in towards streptococcus mutans bacteria. The disk diffusion method was applied to find out the bacterial activity. The results showed that myana leaves contain steroid compounds which is potential compound as antibacterials. The optimum concentration of myana leaves against streptococcus mutans was at concentration of 5% with average minimum inhibition zone of 25.5 mm Keywords:Myana leaf, Streptococcus mutans, Steroids, N-hexane, Antibacterial activity
