Abstract

The number of geriatrics in Indonesia in 1950 with an age of 80 years has reached 7% and this increase is very noticeable, in 2012 the number of geriatrics reached 7.56%. Hypertension that does not get good treatment causes complications such as stroke, coronary heart disease, diabetes, kidney failure and blindness. Geriatric hypertension is caused in part by increased arterial wall stiffness, endothelial dysfunction, decreased baroreceptor reflexes, and increased sodium sensitivity. In addition to increasing age, a decrease in α and β adrenergic responses and a decrease in the function of EDRF (Endothelium Derived Relaxing Factor). Compliance with taking drugs is the main aspect in handling chronic diseases. The research method used in this study was cluster randomized controlled trial (cluster RCT). The study was conducted at the Ngunut Tulungagung Health Center in the period May - March 2019, the respondents in this study were 30 respondents. Respondents were divided into two research groups, namely: the control group and the test group. The test group received treatment with leaflets, while the control group was not treated. Next, the statistical test of Paired Sample T test is obtained, the value of Sig. (2 tailed) 0,000 <0.05 for knowledge and Sig. (2 tailed) 0,000 <0.05 for attitudes can be interpreted as differences in knowledge of the pre test and post test in the Control group and the Test group. And for compliance, the Independent T test is used and the Sig value is obtained. (2 tailed) 0,000 <0.05 significant difference in adherence between the Control group and the Test group Keywords: Geriatrics, Hypertension, Compliance.
