Abstract
Olive oil in addition to being used for various dishes is also efficacious for beauty care. The content of antioxidants and vitamin E is useful for smoothing and moisturizing the surface of the skin. Therefore, olive oil is made with gel preparations with a variety of gelling agent combinations. Gel has soothing properties, moisturizes the skin. This study aims to determine the stability of the physical properties of olive oil gel preparations with a combination of gelling Carbopol 940 and HPMC agents. Gel preparations were made with four formulations. formula I: Carbopol 940 0.5% and HPMC 0.25%, formula II: Carbopol 940 0.75% and HPMC 0.5%, formula III: Carbopol 940 1% and HPMC 0.75%, and formula IV: Carbopol 940 1.25% and HPMC 1%. The gel physical properties test includes organoleptic test, homogeneity test, pH test, adhesion test, dispersion test, viscosity test, protection test, humidity test. The gel physical properties evaluation data were analyzed descriptively and statistically using Oneway Anova. Evaluation data shows that formula I has a pH value of 6; spread power 5.54 ± 1.09; adhesion 12.05 ± 1.03; viscosity 2,413cPs; and has good humidity with a weight reduction of 0.04 in formula IV. So that the formula that has good physical stability is formula I with a combination of carbopol 940 gelling agent and HPMC of 0.5% and 0.25%. Keywords: Olive Oil, Gel, Physical Stability, Moisture
