Abstract
The skin is an organism that limits the environment in the body to the outside environment. Dry air, hot sun, increasing age can cause the skin to become drier due to loss of water by evaporation that is not felt, so the surface of the skin becomes more scaly. Olive oil is rich in vitamins and nutritious substances that can maintain moisture, flexibility and protect the skin, so that it can be made in a mask that is more practical. Facial masks with the type of peel-off gel are widely used because of their ability to rejuvenate the skin, and are able to remove dirt from the face. The physical quality of the mask is influenced by the composition of the ingredients used, for example gelling agents which play an important role in making the peel gel mask off. One of the gelling agents that can be used is carbopol 940, because it is non toxic and with low concentration can form a gel. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of using carbopol 940 on the physical properties and moisture of peel-off olive oil gel preparations. Mask preparations with varying levels of carbopol 940 were made into four formulations, namely F1: 0.5%, F2: 1%, F3: 1.5% and F4: 2%. The physical properties of gel masks include organoleptic test, pH, homogeneity, dispersion power, adhesion, viscosity, dry time and preparation moisture. Data on the evaluation of the physical properties of gel masks were analyzed descriptively and statistics using Oneway Anova. The evaluation data shows that formula 4 has a pH value of 5; sticky power of 52.65 seconds; spread power 5.08 cm; viscosity of 3.36 cPs; dry time 22 minutes; moisture has lower evaporation. These results indicate that formulation 4 has good physical properties and is able to provide moisture to the skin. Keywords: Gelling agent, peel off gel mask, carbopol 940, moisture
