Abstract

Infectious diseases are the most important health problems in developing countries such as Indonesia. Infectious diseases are caused by pathogenic microorganisms such as Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The potential of this bacteria is quite high because 50%-60% will form colonies in the human body and cause some serious infections and mild infections. Staphylococcus aureus bacteria have resistance to some antibiotics. So the need to find other antibiotic alternatives is increasing, such as rambutan leaves that can be used as an antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. The purpose of this study was to find out the antibacterial activity of rambutan leaf fraction against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. The method used in this study was an experimental method using samples of rambutan leaves extracted by maceration and remaceration as well as the addition of ethanol 70%, then diffractionation using aquadestilata solvents, ethyl acetate, and n-hexane. Antibacterial activity test rambutan leaf fraction using in vitro testing method that is disc diffusion with a concentration of 10%. Analysis of the results was conducted with Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney. The results of testing antibacterial activity of rambutan leaf fraction showed the presence of antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 bacteria. Rambutan leaf fraction that has the most active antibacterial activity in inhibiting the growth of staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 bacteria is an ethyl acetate fraction with an average taste zone of 10.83 ± 2.75 mm. This antibacterial activity is derived from the activity of secondary metabolite compounds, namely flavonoid compounds, saponins, and tannins contained in the fraction of rambutan leaves. Keywords: Rambutan leaves, antibacterial, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, fractionation, in vitro.
