Abstract

Kemuning leaves (Murraya paniculata L Jack) and moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera, L) are believed to have antibacterial activity against bacteria S.aureus. Antibacterial activity is due to the content of efficacious active compounds contained in it. One of the topical antibacterial drugs is gel. Gel is a semi solid dosage form containing gel-forming substances intended for external use. This study aims to test the antibacterial activity of kemuning leaf extract combined with moringa leaves and the effectiveness of antibacterial preparations of gels combining kemuning leaves and moringa leaves in inhibiting the growth of S.aureus. The extract method used in this study is a maceration method with ethanol solvent 96%. The concentrations of extracts used are 1:1, 1:2, and 2:1. Each concentration is conducted antibacterial activity test and gel preparations are tested effectiveness against S.aureus using disc paper diffusion method. The data was analyzed with Anova one way test. The results showed that extract concentrations of 1:2 have very strong antibacterial activity with an average bland zone of 23.6 mm. Gel preparations combination of kemuning leaves and moringa leaves have a very strong antibacterial effectiveness with an average gel preparation bonding zone of 24.20 mm positive dick comparison with an average tasteless zone of 17.66 mm.
