Abstract
Binahong plant (Anredera cordifolia (Ten) Steenis) is a potential medicinal plant that contains flavonoid compounds, saponins and alkaloids that can be used as antibacterial agents against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The maceration method was used to obtain ethanolic extract of binahong leaf by using 70% ethanol solvent. The obtained leaf extract of binahong was then subjected to phytochemical screening test and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) test and made into cream preparation and tested for antibacterial activity and stability. Cream is a semisolid dosage of a viscous emulsion containing no less than 60% water and is intended for external use. The result showed that the positive binahong leaf extract contained alkaloid, flavonoid and saponin compounds and obtained minimum inhibition concentration (MIC) of binahong leaf extract on Staphylococcus aureus bacteria at 70% concentration of 14mm. While the results of cream extract of binahong leaf is known to provide antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria characterized by the presence of inhibitory zone diameter at 12mm media and stable cream preparation for one month storage.
